African Violets are among the oldest and most loved houseplants, dating back to just about everyone's grandparents or great grandparents. Flowers with yellow centers rise above fuzzy dark green leaves.

Basic Care: Medium to Hard

• Watering: Water regularly but moderately and avoid letting the plant dry out completely. Water at the base of the plant and avoid wetting the foliage, which can't stand water (this causes staining).
• Light: No direct sun, but plenty of light. Discolored leaves are a sign of too much light. Turn pots regularly to prevent flowers from leaning towards the light.
• Soil/Drainage: A well-draining tropical houseplant mix works best. Avoid heavy clay or dense peat. Additions like perlite and orchid bark enhance drainage.
• Temperature/Humidity: Does best in average to warm temperatures and needs high humidity. Consider using a humidifier or pebble tray to maintain a good level of humidity.
