Aphelandra squarrosa ‘White Wash’ - Zebra Plant

Aphelandra squarrosa ‘White Wash’

Aphelandra squarrosa ‘White Wash’ is a rare and hard-to-find zebra plant cultivar prized for its dramatic, frosted foliage. A hybrid with origins in Brazil and a cross between Aphelandra squarrosa and Aphelandra ‘Snow White,’ this variety features large, softly textured leaves that emerge with bronze tones before maturing to pale green brushed with bold, silvery-white veining. The heavy contrast and misted appearance give the plant a refined, almost velvety glow that immediately draws the eye.

Zebra Plant Basic Care: Moderate

  • Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering or letting the plant dry out completely.
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch leaves, while low light may reduce contrast and growth.
  • Soil/Drainage: Use a well-draining, slightly acidic houseplant mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
  • Temperature/Humidity: Thrives in warm temperatures and high humidity. Average room temperatures are fine, but added humidity from a humidifier or pebble tray is strongly recommended.
