Rubus 'Chester Thornless'
Chester is a thornless and semi-erect variety of blackberry that was developed by the USDA in 1985. Medium to large berries are deep black, round and very sweet. This is a high quality and high yielding variety and will not soften or lose its color in hot weather. Reputedly an excellent variety for making blackberry wine. Late ripening. Chester is the most winter hardy thornless blackberry and is very resistant to cane blight. Provide support for the vines.
